Christmas Music Clarification

Okay! Let me say my peace about Christmas Music. I love it! I could play it all year round! I have never, ever said that I had anything against it! That said, let me explain. One year I was shopping the day after Halloween and everywhere I went the stores were playing Christmas Music, I was humming along and enjoying it. There were Christmas decorations everywhere, people were buying ornaments to put on their trees, the Christmas season was in the air. Then it hit me...What About Thanksgiving!

Where was it. I looked and found very little. A cute turkey or pilgrim here or there, that was it. My very favorite holiday of the whole year was being pushed out for profit! I came home and made an anouncement:

We were not going to skip Thanksgiving! There would be no playing of Christmas music until Thanksgiving day! I love Christmas and will be happy to give it every bit of attention it deserves but, I will not give up Thanksgiving. So anyone caught listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving day obviously has chosen to skip the holiday altogether and therefore will not be aloud to have any turkey on Thanksgiving, they can just look forward to the ham on Christmas. Well, as much as I made it a point on that day, I am finding that my family has been listening to Christmas music behind my back. (And they love to tell people my rule and have a good laugh!) Just because when they get in my car occasionally some holly jolly will escape my radio, this is no reason to believe I have gone back on my rule, others drive my car, there is no reason to point any fingers. And may I say that watching or quoting "The Grinch" is not the same as listening to music! My Thanksgiving is going to remain pure. It will shine forth for all to see. The perfect day.

Wake up to the smell of turkey already cooking, turn on the parade, lunch at 11:00AM, stroll outside and eat a tangerine off the tree, play with the dog, attempt to jump on the tramp and give the kids a laugh, stroll back inside, put a few pieces into the puzzle, talk to whoever is still awake, debate which Jane Austen movie to put on, then remember the PIE! Does it get any better than this? I love the day, it is full of food and family my two favorite things. One big lazy day. I can't wait. This year I have ordered a "turducken". Can't wait to try it! Long live Thanksgiving Day!I'm not sure Turkeys would agree.

While I agree that Thanksgiving can get overlooked... I think you are just shopping in the wrong stores. Go to a grocery store! Thanksgiving EVERYWHERE! :) tee hee! I love Thanksgiving too, Christmas music has just become apart of it! Tonight we watched Miracle on 34th street! Doesn't that just usher in the Christmas season! YEAH! Can't wait!

Thanksgiving, in my opinion, is probably the most spiritual holiday... maybe that is because of the lack of commercialism.

But... one month is just not enough time to listen to Christmas music!

Can't wait to hear about that "turducken"! :D

the best post EVER.
i am still laughing... you are hilarious... i KNOW you were directing this one at me :)
and i actually totally agree with you!
in fact i was laying in bed just last night thinking to myself how i have basically ruined Christmas for myself. i mean, how much funner would it be to listen to Christmas music if i knew i had to wait until after thanksgiving to listen to it? but instead i have just been parading Christmas music around and now, although Christmas music is always fantastic... i feel like i took some of the magic out of the holiday.
perhaps i will set a new goal/tradition in my life... you make such a good point! :)
and... i love the pictures you used!

ps. the more i think about birthing this kid without you... the more i am convinced that you just HAVE to be there. i was talking to Samantha and she was bragging how you are gunna help her... and i was SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!
*sigh*... why oh WHY do i live in Utah???
