Ode to El Pato

When I was little my mom use to mix one small can of El Pato with two small cans of tomato sauce to make hot sauce for all our mexican meals, taco's, tostado's. bean burro's, it didn't matter what she made we would douse it with hot sauce. She also make bean dip by adding just a little El Pato to a can of Rosarita refried beans. She would taste it often to make sure she didn't get it to hot to eat. Once my brother Doug and I were making out tostadas and happened to meet at the hot sauce bowl at the same time. I put a scoop on mine and he put a scoop on his, mine, his, mine, his, soon our tostadas were floating on our plates. This is when my mom happened to walk by... she, calmly I'm sure, told us to go to the table and that we were going to have to eat every spec on our plate! I don't remember eating it, I'm sure that we did, mommy was no push over. I do know it didn't stop me from loving the darn stuff.
After I got married I had a problem, if I mixed up that much hot sauce there was no way we could eat even half of it before it went bad. So I tried just one can of El Pato and one can of tomato sauce...would it be to hot? No, it was great! Then one day while visiting Russ's sister Joyce I noticed she used it right out of the can! No Way! It would be to hot! I tried it and OUT went the tomato sauce. I was a changed woman.
Now, why bring this up? Well the other day I had just a scoop of beans leftover from tostado's and almost a whole can of El Pato that Russ didn't want to waste so he mixed them together to make bean dip. It was AWSOME! No more taste it to make sure it isn't to hot. One small can of beans and one whole small can of El Pato. Best bean dip ever! I like it after it sits all night in the refrigerator. Cold and Yummy with any chips. If I ever move from here I'm taking a case of El Pato with me just in case.

I love El Pato... it is the best! If you ever do find a case of it somewhere tell me. Joyce saw the el pato in my cupboard one time and was like, "holy cow you guys use a lot of el pato!" and she wasn't joking! I would love to buy it by the case.
